Just read about a news today regarding keeping children from cheap jewelries as they contain hard metals such as cadmium and lead.
The Yahoo! headline about this warming came as a big surprise to me because I usually delight to see my nephews and niece wearing such inexpensive jewelries. My niece who is four (4) years old loves animal adornments and would usually insist in buying one whenever we pass by some jewelry stores in a mall.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission in the US warns that children wearing ornamental charms such as bracelets, earrings, and necklaces are highly exposed to the toxic substances these jewelries are made of. You see, children sometimes chew, suck, or sometimes even eat them without knowing that these jewelleries contains heavy metals which carry with them potential carcinogens, hampering physical and brain development.
This is something that we parents should know about. A bill is set to be introduced next week to protect children from unsafe toys and ornaments - Safe Kids' Jewelry Act.
